Spin Rate
How fast the ball spins backward — height, carry and stopping power.
What it is
Spin rate is the amount of backspin on the ball just after impact, measured in revolutions per minute. It controls how the ball climbs, how long it stays in the air, and how it stops on landing.
Why it matters
Too much spin balloons the flight and costs distance; too little and the ball falls out of the air early. The right window depends on the club and your speed — drivers want less spin, wedges want plenty.
How to improve it
For the driver, lower spin usually comes from less spin loft and a centered, slightly upward strike, plus the right equipment. For wedges, clean contact and the right ball maximize spin.
