Launch Angle

The vertical angle the ball leaves the face.

What it is

Launch angle is the vertical angle, relative to the ground, at which the ball starts its flight. It's closely tied to dynamic loft and attack angle.

Why it matters

Together with spin and ball speed, launch angle determines your carry and peak height. Optimal launch is generally higher with the driver and progressively lower through the irons.

How to improve it

Adjust dynamic loft, attack angle, and strike location. Many amateurs gain distance by launching the driver higher with less spin — often achievable through a fitting.
