Face Angle
Where the face points at impact — the main driver of start direction.
What it is
Face angle is the direction the club face is pointing at impact relative to the target line: open (pointing right for a right-handed golfer), square, or closed (pointing left). It is the single biggest influence on where the ball starts.
Why it matters
The ball starts very close to where the face is pointing. If your shots start offline before they curve, face angle is usually the reason.
How to improve it
Grip and clubface-awareness drills, plus impact training, help square the face. Small grip changes often have an outsized effect on face control.
