Rough was deep and lots of high grass areas around the fairways and greens so not easy to recover if you are not in or near the fairways - lots of lost balls. Challenging Greens. “I don’t know if “golf course” is the right term here… it felt more like a psychological experiment with grass. PB Dye is beautiful, no question. Like… distractingly beautiful. The kind of place where you’re standing on the tee thinking “wow, this is incredible,” and then immediately losing three balls because you were too busy admiring the scenery instead of figuring out where you’re supposed to hit it. And even when you are paying attention… good luck. I spent a solid chunk of the round just wandering around like I dropped my keys in the rough. “It should be right here.” Yeah, sure. The greens are… I don’t even know. Trippy is the only word that fits. They look flat-ish from a distance and then you get up there and suddenly it’s like putting on a Pringle. Putts that feel perfect just slowly drift off like they’ve got somewhere better to be. I had a few where I just stood there after like, “ok… cool… so that’s happening.” And the yardages? Completely messed with my head. Some holes looked way longer than they were, others looked short and then played like they were in another zip code. It’s like the course is quietly gaslighting you the whole time. You stop trusting your eyes by like hole 5. That said… I had one of those moments that keeps you coming back. Hole 2, chipped in for birdie. Didn’t even fully process it at first, just watched it roll and disappear and then it hit me like “wait… that actually went in??” Probably the highlight of my day and honestly carried me through the rest of the chaos. I had a few good holes, but overall this course kind of beats you up a little. Not in a mean way, just… relentlessly. Like it knows exactly how good you think you are and then adjusts accordingly. Still though, I loved it. It’s hard, it’s weird, it’s really fun in a slightly frustrating way. And yeah, I’ll absolutely play it again. Probably lose a dozen more balls too, but whatever. “We had an absolute blast playing at PB Dye as we checked off state #19 in our 50-state golf journey, this time in beautiful Maryland! ⛳️ This course is truly a hidden gem. The staff was amazing, friendly, welcoming, and made us feel right at home. The course itself was in phenomenal shape, with lush fairways, smooth greens, and a layout that kept the round both fun and challenging. And here’s a pro tip: you have to try the famous pretzel dog after your round. 🌭🥨 It’s the perfect way to wrap up an already incredible day of golf.
