“What sets Andy apart is his ability to simplify the game without oversimplifying it. Every lesson is focused on one or two key concepts. That might not sound revolutionary, but it’s incredibly effective. Most golfers don’t need ten swing thoughts rattling around in their heads. They need a clear priority, time to work on it, and confidence that they’re moving in the right direction. By keeping things focused, I leave lessons feeling challenged but not overwhelmed. He’s also got a few Jedi mind tricks that make learning new movements much easier. When I was working on releasing the club to eliminate a slice, he’d have me exaggerate the movement to the point where it felt ridiculous. That helped me understand what “too much” felt like, and from there it was easy to dial it back into the correct range. It’s amazing how often that approach helps a swing change click. Another example is how he uses half swings and punch shots to build fundamentals. Instead of immediately trying to make changes at full speed, we’d start with shorter swings to improve swing direction and contact, then gradually work up to three-quarter swings and eventually full swings. It makes the learning process far more manageable and repeatable. One of the most valuable concepts I’ve learned from him is the difference between practicing and training. Practicing is maintaining or sharpening a skill you already have. Training is the uncomfortable work of breaking an old habit and building a new one. Most golfers think they’re practicing when they’re actually avoiding the hard work of training. He understands that distinction and structures lessons accordingly.
